چکیده

In this work, the motion parameters of the bi-directionally predicted pictures (B-pictures) of MPEG-1,2 are exploited for concealment of large portions of corrupted anchor pictures that might arise due to channel errors or packet losses. To further enhance the quality of the concealed anchor pictures, we propose two methods of constraining the motion vectors of the B-pictures that strengthen the tie between them and those of the anchor pictures in the same picture sub-group. In one method, the macroblock decisions on the last B-picture in each sub-group is constrained to be bi-directional if those of the other B-pictures are not, such that the derived motion vectors for the concealment of the anchor picture are always composed from the forward and backward motion vectors of the bi-directional motions. Second, the bi-directional motion vectors of the B-pictures in each sub-group is constrained such that the vectorial sum of their forward and backward motion vectors results in accurate motion prediction of the anchor picture. The experimental results show that while the composed motion vectors improve the quality of concealment over the conventional methods by more than 3-4 dB, another 2 dB improvement can be achieved by constraining the generation of the bi-directional motion

Hybrid error concealments based on block content

We present a novel error-concealment method for MPEG-2 video decoders. Imperfect transmission of block-based compressed images may result in the loss of blocks, degrading the quality of the received video signal. Since an I-picture is used as a reference picture for forward and backward predictions of neighbouring pictures, transmission errors in an I-picture are propagated both spatially in th...

The error concealment feature in the H.26L test model

This paper presents the error concealment (EC) feature implemented by the authors in the test model of the draft ITU-T video coding standard H.26L. The selected EC algorithms are based on weighted pixel value averaging for INTRA pictures and boundary-matching-based motion vector recovery for INTER pictures. The specific concealment strategy and some special methods, including handling of B-pict...

Burst-Packet-Loss Concealment for MPEG-2 Video

In this paper, we propose an object-based error-concealment technique for MPEG-2 video transmitted in a burst-packet-loss environment. A burst packet loss typically impairs consecutive slices for the reconstructed picture. The proposed object-based error concealment proceeds in two stages, by intra-picture and inter-picture estimation respectively. In the first stage, regions of the missing are...

An Improved Motion Vector Estimation Approach for Video Error Concealment Based on the Video Scene Analysis

In order to enhance the accuracy of the motion vector (MV) estimation and also reduce the error propagation issue during the estimation, in this paper, a new adaptive error concealment (EC) approach is proposed based on the information extracted from the video scene. In this regard, the motion information of the video scene around the degraded MB is first analyzed to estimate the motion type of...

An integrated multiple-substream unequal error protection and error concealment algorithm for Internet video applications

This paper presents a coordinated multiple-substream unequal error protection and error concealment algorithm for SPIHT-coded bitstreams transmitted over lossy channels. In the proposed scheme, we divide the video sequence corresponding to a group of pictures into two sub-sequences in the temporal domain and independently encode each sub-sequence with a 3-D SPIHT algorithm to generate two indep...
